What is Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child?
Thanksgiving for the Gift of a child and Baptism are rites on the way of faith, leading ultimately to confirmation and full membership of the church family.
This is the first rite on the way, when we say thank you for the arrival of a new member of our family. A service of thanksgiving for the gift of a child is separate from baptism and often leads to baptism at a later date, when the child is old enough to make that decision for themselves.
It is also useful as a service to acknowledge a child joining a new family at a later date.
The service of thanksgiving can be a time of great celebration and joy when the family of God come together to offer thanks for the gift of a child.
